Bellhouse Provincial Park is located on Burrill Point on the south side of Sturdies Bay on Galiano Island, and is named in honour of the first innkeepers on the island. This tiny 2-hectare park overlooks Active Pass and Mayne Island and is a great vantage point from which to observe the ferries passing between the two Gulf Islands with their load of passengers travelling between Victoria and Vancouver.
From the rocky shoreline you can photograph the giant ferries, spincast for salmon and cod in the swift currents of Active Pass or simply observe Killer Whales and Sea Lions while you explore the limestone formations down to the water's edge. Pause here to rest and picnic before heading uphill to Bluffs Park, another good picnic location at the south end of Galiano.
The park is accessible by canoe or kayak via Active Pass, although the rocky shoreline makes pulling out of the water difficult. Salt water fishing in the swift currents of Active Pass can be done from the shores of Bellhouse Park. Fishing is permitted as per provincial and federal regulations.
Visitors to Bellhouse Provincial Park can catch a ferry to Sturdies Bay from Vancouver (Tsawwassen) or Victoria (Swartz Bay). Bellhouse Park is only a short walk north from the ferry dock at Sturdies Bay on Galiano Island, and the route is well marked.
Facilities are restricted to picnic tables only.
